EVCOM represents corporate film and live events companies. Many of our member companies have fantastic mentorship and/ or internship opportunities to get involved with. Find out more about some of them below.

Casual Films

The Casual Academy, which has been running for nearly 9 years, provides 16-25 year olds from diverse, often disadvantaged, backgrounds with hands-on filmmaking experience. Working alongside our professional filmmakers, the Academy members attend skills workshops, culminating in the production of a free film for a local charity that wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford it. The charity gets a free film, the young people get the experience of working for a real client.

So far we have reached over 150 young people across our home cities.

We’re also currently in the process of developing an online resource to help diverse disadvantaged young people into the industry.

Our internships usually run for 4-8 weeks and are paid at London Living Wage rates. Due to Covid we’ve not been running these as we usually would but hope to restart again in 2022, and to expand the internships on offer.

TFI Lodestar

TFI Lodestar currently operates three separate programmes of opportunity for young people.

Work Experience: these places are usually assigned to sixth form students from local schools, recruited in partnership with the Education Development Trust. They offer a broad introduction to the world of work and an opportunity for students to identify a possible future career path. They typically run for two weeks.

Internships: more specialised in nature, these opportunities are targeted at university students and often require a set level of academic achievement plus a reference or recommendation. Internships are positions of responsibility, and offer a deep dive into specific areas of operation. Interns tend to use these placements to hone their career ambitions or develop areas of academic study. Internships last for up to 48 weeks.

Placements: these operate on a more ad hoc basis, and can be offered in response to a request from an education body, a referral, or a direct personal application. The nature and duration of these placements varies on a case-by-case basis.

TRO

Here at TRO, we are really committed to introducing and nurturing young and diverse talent within the experiential marketing and events industry. We are proud to say that we are one of the first supporters of the REACH scholarship initiative, which aims to improve access to education for young people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds on the undergraduate Events Management degree programme at the Manchester Metropolitan University. We are pledging £5000 a year, for the next three years, which will go towards supporting the students with their living expenses. We’ve also recently been approved to join the Government Kickstart Scheme with many live roles currently available across our London and Norwich offices.

Looking ahead, we plan to launch our own placement programme in 2022, whereby we will invite candidates from Schools, Colleges and Universities to apply for an incredible placement where they will have the opportunity to gain insight into what it takes to create award-winning shares experiences by rotating around relevant departments including our creative studio, activation team and immersive production studio Cassette.

Follow us on social media for details on how to apply next year! You can find all the TRO social handles via the TRO website here.
