EVCOM was delighted to bring back the Film Production Lunches in partnership with Video Club, on 28th April, bringing together filmmakers, production company leaders and senior industry figures for an open and honest discussion about the current state – and future of the sector.
Held at the Riding House Restaurant, the lunch was led by Barnaby Cook (Auspicious) and Gabe Whitehead (Flock & Video Club) created exactly the kind of candid, collaborative atmosphere these sessions are designed for.
Discussion covered a wide range of issues currently affecting the industry, from the slowdown in client commissions and wider macro-economic pressures through to company culture, optimism for the next 12–18 months, consolidation within the sector, and of course the rapidly evolving impact of technology and AI on production businesses.
One of the most valuable aspects of the session was the openness of the conversation, with established industry stalwarts sitting alongside emerging businesses and several non-members, all sharing perspectives and experiences around the challenges and opportunities ahead.
There was particular discussion around how production companies are adapting their business models, what other industries the sector can learn from, and why so many creative businesses are currently being acquired.
Most importantly, the lunch reinforced the importance of bringing the industry together face-to-face to exchange ideas, support one another and openly discuss the realities everyone is navigating.
A huge thank you to Barnaby Cook and Gabe Whitehead for leading such an insightful and engaging session, and to everyone who joined us for what proved to be another fantastic EVCOM industry gathering.
We are already very much looking forward to the next one.
