Workplace wellbeing organisation Stress Matters has announced today its certification as a B Corporation, joining a growing group of companies reinventing business by pursuing purpose as well as profit. In the events industry, Warwick Events and Exclusive Collection have also achieved this status.

With over 150,000 companies starting the diagnostic process, and a community of only 4,800 businesses globally who have certified as B Corps and just over 700 companies in the UK, it is a rigorous undertaking.  Stress Matters completed this process in just 8 months.

Laura Capell-Abra, Founder of Stress Matters shares “We are so incredibly proud of this  certification as it publicly recognises our long standing commitment to improve the lives of employees everywhere in a tangible and impact-driven way.

I started the business with a vision of changing the culture in the events industry and we have now managed to reach beyond this to help creative businesses of all shapes and sizes improve the insights into their team and offer the right support at the right time.

We have always driven home the organising principle of making workplace wellbeing easy.  It shouldn’t be a chore and it shouldn’t be ignored.  As a business that does impact the health of an individual, I’ve always wanted us to achieve official recognition of well-respected organisations such as Mental Health First Aid England, the International Stress Management Association and now I’m overjoyed that we can add B Lab to this too.

Chris Turner, Executive Director of B Lab UK, says “Welcoming Stress Matters is an exciting moment because they have an opportunity to lead the way within the workplace wellbeing industry. We and the rest of the B Corp community are really pleased to support Stress Matters in paving the way for a new way of doing things.

Stress Matters’s clients include IMEX, Resident Hotels, The British Academy, Chorus and Interstate Hotels within this industry and other companies such as Adobe, Crossword Security, Chillys Bottles and Sytner outside this industry.

The B Corp certification addresses the entirety of a business’ operations and covers five key impact areas of Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers. The certification process is rigorous, with applicants required to reach a benchmark score of over 80 while providing evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency. To complete the certification, the company has to  legally embed their commitment to purpose beyond profit in their company articles.
