Thank you so much to our panelists Peter Heath (Plasa), Simon Hambley (Strata Create), Wendy Andrews (Bishop Fleming) and David Bennett (Elman Wall Bennett) who joined our own Executive Director, Claire Fennelow, to discuss the impact Brexit is having on businesses in our sector, and how businesses can stay ahead.

Peter Heath spoke on behalf of the entertainment industry, an industry particularly hard hit by Brexit and one that has a lot of crossover with the events sector. He spoke about the issues touring companies are going to face, and problems around moving both people and equipment around. Simon Hambley spoke about his experience of setting up an EU office in response to the transition, and the challenges agencies are currently facing and are likely to face going forwards. David Bennett shed valuable light on TOMs, a potential silver lining, although, he told us, one of few. Wendy Andrews shared her expertise around taxes and VAT, as well as giving us an insight into the most pressing concerns faced by businesses that she has been talking to through this period. The panel answered audience questions through out. Whilst they agreed that the impact of Brexit is certainly going to pose a challenge to deal with, especially coupled with the impact of Covid-19 – “a perfect storm”, as one of our panelists said – it was heartening and valuable to hear from these industry leaders and experts who have such a wealth of knowledge.
