Job: Conference & Events Technical Manager
Pay: £29,928 – £31,742 per annum. This is an annualised permanent contract, subject to successful completion of a probationary period of 3 months.
Hours: 2,028 per annum (equivalent to 39 hours per week). Some evening and weekend WILL be required. We don’t encourage or expect over time, however, in the event that over time is worked, this may be taken as time off in lieu to be agreed in advance with your line manager.
Holidays: 20 days per year plus bank holidays rising to 25 days plus bank holidays with continuous service. The holiday year runs from 1 September to 31 August each year.
Notice period: 4 weeks
Location of work: Your main place of work will be The Rep in Birmingham, but you may be required to work permanently or temporarily at other locations locally.

Role Summary
Unique Venues Birmingham (UVB) is a venture between Birmingham Repertory Theatre (The Rep) and the Library of Birmingham (LoB) to exploit the excellent conferencing and hospitality opportunities offered within the shared building on Centenary Square in the centre of the city.
The Conference and Events Technical Manager is responsible for ensuring the safe and effective delivery of the technical requirements for a broad range of events including conferences, product launches, gala dinners and award ceremonies
The aim of your job is:
- Being proficient in many technical AV elements including lighting, graphics and sound.
- To support on technical elements of the sales and planning aspects of all events.
- Train and support Events Technicians and Apprentices in technical sets ups and deliveries
- To be a direct point of contact for Event clients for any technical aspect for any event.
- Support development of new technologies and procedures for a more efficient and current delivery of events withing UVB.
- To provide excellent customer service to customers and visitors of UVB
- To supervise and ensure the safe and efficient set up and running of events.
- To ensure the safety, comfort and wellbeing of customers and staff at all times
- To maintain standards of quality in all areas of work
- To ensure excellent communication between departments and teams
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage the delivery of all technical requirements and instructions as dictated by the Events and Technical Project Manager and event brief.
- Manage and support Events Technicians in all aspects of set up, fit-ups, de-rigs and get-outs (working closely with other departments where practicable), to include preparation of lighting, production and AV equipment prior to events, including focusing, graphical set ups and sound testing.
- Ensure smooth operation of equipment, including the lighting control desks, stage electrics, sound desk, etc during events.
- Offer troubleshooting assistances for any UVB event.
- Support the Events and Technical Project Manager in the planning, set up and delivery of various events within UVB’s portfolio ensuring attendance to all key training and planning meetings.
- Managing and maintaining an inventory of technical equipment. Including regular testing, stock level reviews and quality checks.
- Ensure provision of excellent customer service to clients and visitors to events in UVB’s spaces.
- Supporting the Events Operations Manager Operations team in being the client liaison for technical elements of the event during live events.
- Ensure the delivery of all basic event technical requirements for UVB.
- Support Event Technical Manager the Events and Technical Project Manager in efficient and effective communication with The REPep’s technical & production departments and the clients on all physical and technical matters relating to events.
- Support the Events and Technical Project Manager in the forward planning and coordination of all resources required to deliver technical elements of all events.
- Support the Events and Technical Project Manager in ensuring there is appropriate levels of technical support coverage for all events.
- Support the Events and Technical Project Manager in liaising with third party suppliers and freelancers.
- Ensure smooth cooperation between all partners (Library, catering, REPep and third-party hirers).
- Manage resources effectively, maximising income and minimising expenditure wherever possible.
- Liaison with potential and confirmed clients regarding the physical and technical specifications of events at the stage of sale or during site visits in the absence of The Events and Technical Project Manager.
- Support and promote all company policy, with specific attention to, Fire Safety, Health and Safety, Customer Care, Data Protection, Safeguarding, Equality & Diversity.
- Ensure a safe working environment is always maintained with particular regard to the health, safety and welfare of customers, visitors, staff and yourself.
- Support The Events and Technical Project Manager in the building & developing of the technical team and performance management.
- Any other reasonable duties required for the smooth running of UVB.

The post-holder would be given appropriate training and equipment to carry out any duties of this kind.

This role forms part of the Events Technical team. You will manage the Conference & Events Technician, and be managed by the Events and Technical Project Manager. This structure may change from time to time based on business need, but reflects the broad areas of responsibility.
