Benedicta Asante is the Founder of Events 101. We hear from Benedicta about her journey, and how to set yourself apart as a newcomer in the events industry.

If you’ve heard snippets of my story then you know that I have studied a number of degrees; nursing, finance, psychology AND THEN business and event management. Unbeknownst to me, that journey which I despised would bode well in my favour in the years to come.

In today’s climate, I’ve realised employers are looking for more from event professionals. I would say more for their buck, people that can do more than one role in a way. If you are interested in corporate events like me, every corporate company has a specialism, whether it be pharmaceutical, finance or law. Having some knowledge of the area and how they function, what kind of events they run, the policies and procedures associated with the area, would be very beneficial to you.

Even if it isn’t corporate events but your interest is festivals or sporting events, what additional expertise do you have to offer? In such environments it could simply be having the additional first aid qualification or technical knowledge of stage management.

So my question is; What sets you apart? If you believe your answer is nothing, be an active part of a community. Join something that you can build in turn developing your skills whether virtually or physically.
