Broadsword MD and EVCOM Board Member, Anna Green, is supporting our Realise Award for a second year, as a mentor to newcomers in the events industry.
Engagement of the next generation of event organisers is an essential part of our work towards a more diverse and inclusive sector. We launched The Realise Award, an award for young people currently working in or aspiring to work in, the events industry. Open to 18–25 year olds with a passion for the sector, the award offers mentorship opportunities from top corporate event companies. This year’s winner, Courtney Lilley is working with four mentors over the course of a year, receiving advice, support and shadowing opportunities with each.
Courtney shares her motivation for entering the awards, ”I applied for the Realise Award mainly because of my passion for the events industry, however I also applied so that I could not only increase my presence in the events industry, but also increase my knowledge and skills within the area, by speaking to industry professionals.”
Broadsword’s Managing Director, Anna Green, will be taking on the role as a mentor this month, offering her time and expertise.
Anna says, “I’ve had a lot of guidance and coaching throughout my career, which has been invaluable for the success of my business and for my own professional development. Being with people who empower you to be your authentic self is so important. Caring for Broadsword’s people is my mission and bringing out the best in each and every person is rooted in our success, creating a healthy, open and caring environment where a diverse group can thrive. I really enjoyed extending the support I offer further afield last year and am looking forward to working with Courtney this year.”
The events industry can be hard to break into for young people, especially those from a diverse background. We hope this competition can serve as a way in, a chance to get demonstrable experience and access to the expertise of current event professionals. Anna is delighted to be involved.
