We spoke to new member Graeme Massey, Managing Director at JacobsMassey, for his thoughts on creativity, the pandemic and films you can’t live without!

What is your favourite thing about what you do?

That’s a tough question because there are so many aspects of what we do as a company that I enjoy. I suppose overriding all would be working with creative people using technology to help deliver experiences.

What is one thing you’ve learnt from the pandemic?

Look after your team. It’s the number one priority. Without your team you have no company.

What does creativity mean to you?

I think it’s having the idea. For example during the pandemic we decided to combine our years of experience in crewing to offer our clients virtual event support. This lead to us to develop hybrid event solutions by partnering with venues. Today we provide a full production service alongside freelance deployment and permanent AV recruitment.

Can you recommend a resource for us to check out – could be something you’ve found incredibly useful, a source of inspiration for you or just something that made you laugh at a difficult moment?

I’m going to answer this in a slightly different way. It’s not a resource as such but more an activity. A state of mind. In my case it’s running! I’ve always been active but especially during the pandemic I found that running really helped to keep me focused and calm for work and home life. I’d recommend the book “Why we run, a story of obsession” by Robin Harvie.

Favourite film?

Get Carter – Michael Caine is simply brilliant!

‘One Minute With…’ is a series of articles and films where we ask our members questions and they answer in just one minute! If you’d like to be involved in the initiative please get in contact with Amelia at amelia.brown@evcom.org.uk to express your interest and find out more!
