Last week we held our first ever shadow board meeting with our inaugural shadow board! Made up of filmmakers and event organisers, both aspiring and professional, the group of nine 18-25 year olds will be feeding their ideas into EVCOM, working with the senior board and EVCOM staff, and helping us to make this association and the wider sector a place for young and diverse people.
Each shadow board member was chosen by the EVCOM team and board, following an interview process. The successful applicants were chosen for their passion and perspective, and everyone at EVCOM is incredibly excited to be working with them.
At our first meeting, held at The October Gallery, we introduced the shadow board and the senior board to each other. We then split off into separate meetings. Amelia Brown (EVCOM) and Benedicta Assante (Events 101) led the shadow board meeting, compiling ideas and suggestions around content, events, inclusivity and youth engagement. Senior and shadow board then came together once again, over a celebratory glass of prosecco!
Amelia says, “It was so refreshing to be surrounded by so many ideas, and so much invaluable perspective. I’m really looking forward to working with such a brilliant group of people, and to making these ideas happen. This is a whole new venture for EVCOM, and I think it’s going to change us and the sector for the better.”
Claire Fennelow, EVCOM’s Executive Director, says, “The Board and myself are incredibly excited by the vision and ideas of the new shadow board. Having worked on and originated many youth programmes in my time, I am really glad to be bringing this to EVCOM. We look forward to working closely with them, to ensure that EVCOM and the industries of corporate film and events, remain relevant and are truly diverse and inclusive.”
