Change. I Don’t Like It! I LOVE It!

…is something I never hear from  — from well, anyone.

But why? What’s wrong with change?  Do we really not like it or are we fine with change… as long as nothing actually  changes?

OR is it because we just disagree with the type of change happening around us?

Sometimes we choose it. Sometimes it’s forced on us. Sometimes it’s necessary.

Either way, change doesn’t wait for permission. It’s constant, inevitable and unstoppable. The real question is: do we fight it, fear it, or find a way to use it?

Personally, I find change exciting — it’s where energy, ideas and opportunity live.

But let’s face it, even for me  2025 has been a year of relentless change.

Fast. Far-reaching. Political, financial, technological — everything has shifted gear.

Now, with the UK Budget on the horizon, there’s that familiar pause. Will it bring stability, or just makeveryone hesitate again?

We’ve seen this before,  like the landlord reforms that came in this month. Has the fear of change caused more disruption than the change itself will?

The thing is, most change isn’t sudden — it’s slow, steady, and sneaks up on us. One day you look around and realise: everything’s different.

Change is growth in motion. And for our industry, it is definitely also opportunity.

If “change” feels uncomfortable, try swapping it for “Possibility”.

It will change how you view it and how you feel.

Because change comes however you feel and the question is whether we let it happen to us, or shape what happens next.

Evolving EVCOM: Built for Now. Leading What’s Next

Many months into this role, the vision I had for EVCOM feels clearer and stronger than ever.

EVCOM has been through a lot of change in recent years — and will that stop? Unlikely. But that’s not a bad thing. Evolution isn’t a phase; it’s a mindset.

So, what does that look like in practice for EVCOM?

1. The Next Gen Framework

We’ve taken our Next Gen programme and made it central to who we are.

Next Gen isn’t a side initiative — it’s a promise. These are our future leaders, innovators and changemakers.

On Friday, together with Andrew Smith, Julie Sander and Amelia Bithell, I was delighted to welcome our new Next Gen Board — a group who will shadow EVCOM’s main Board, contributing ideas, perspectives and energy that will help shape our strategy for years to come.

It’s a framework designed not just to listen to the next generation, but to empower them to lead. And honestly, the talent and ambition in this group is extraordinary.

2. The EVCOM AGM: Looking Ahead

Later this month, at our AGM, we’ll unveil our strategy for the year ahead and will be looking at how to strengthen our organisation and support our members to do the same for your businesses – and seize new opportunities.

We’re focusing on building tools, useful connections, frameworks and information that help you build resilience and stay ahead in a shifting landscape — because our success is measured by yours.

3. Members: Sharpening Value

Over the past few months, we’ve reviewed our entire membership offering and refined it into a new, clearer set of benefits and a stronger value proposition.

I’d love your thoughts, feedback and ideas. This is your community; it only gets stronger through your input.

4. The EVCOM London Live & Film Awards

And of course, we’re just a couple of weeks away from one of the most exciting nights of the year — the EVCOM London Live & Film Awards.

This year’s shortlist is the largest and most diverse in years — proof of the creativity, scale and ambition within our industry.

Powered by our brilliant partners and sponsors — IMPACT XM, The Edge, PRG Kinura, The Royal Garden Hotel, DPRG and others — this year’s awards are not just about celebration; they’re about collaboration.

When these forces come together, the possibilities multiply.

Because this industry doesn’t just reflect change — it drives it. So if you haven’t got your tickets yet, get them and come and have a look how you can power your possibility.

Change and the Power of Possibility

At EVCOM, we don’t see change as something to fear. We see it as the power of possibility.

Our principle, Built for Now, Leading What’s Next, means staying grounded in the present while always keeping an eye on the future.

We know the shifts are coming — in technology, client expectations and the way audiences connect — but through it all, one thing remains constant: people and connection.

That’s the heart of what we do.

Whether it’s a live event that brings people together or a film that moves hearts and minds, the how may evolve, but the why never changes.

The power lies in how we deliver those experiences. That’s where innovation lives. That’s where possibility becomes reality.

The Constant in All This Change

As everything evolves — technology, platforms, processes — one thing stays the same: people.

Events and films are ultimately about connection and impact. About stories, ideas and emotions shared between human beings.

Change isn’t chaos. It’s progress. And if we embrace it — with curiosity, openness and courage — it becomes our greatest advantage.

And you are what makes everything possible.

Onward Together.
